But before their collapse, brave first responders from all over the city were attempting to rescue Americans and others trapped in those doomed buildings.
The brave souls of New York Fire Department Ladder 3 were a team of those brave souls. Their heroism, bravery, and selflessness, in blatant defiance of an order to retreat from the doomed Twin Towers, cost them their lives as they attempted to rescue trapped victims. These men are legends.
Legends who left this world too early. Men who should be honored and remembered by all generations. Men of a rare breed.
